We do like it cosy. But that doesn’t make us couch potatoes. Not by a long shot! And with 117 hectares of unspoilt nature right on our doorstep, keeping fit takes hardly any effort. The Wienerberg recreation area is dotted with numerous paths for running, cycling, walking and simply strolling. One of these offers a sporty challenge for our PhilsPlace guests.
Whether you’re an amateur athlete or fitness fanatic, up-and-coming Armstrong or wannabe Federer – the Wienerberg is calling you. Far from the hustle and bustle of the big city, a well-developed, 14-kilometer-long network of paths with a variety of walking, running and cycling routes awaits. Running checkpoint boards throughout the area provide valuable tips, information on track layouts and lengths, as well as the degree of difficulty and the terrain. We recommend the Phil’s Brick Lake Round, which runs along the shores of the Wienerberg lake. We’ve plotted the exact PhilsPlace route for our guests in the Strava app. This lets you record your running speed and time on the route, and measure yourself against other runners from the community. For those who aren’t out to beat their personal best, the Wienerberg lake invites you to take a break for a dip or some sunbathing. Or stop by the “Das Chadim” restaurant to enjoy a refreshing drink or regional delicacy.
For all those who prefer to sweat it out in a team rather than alone, the Wienerberg offers a streetball court, several football pitches and a beach volleyball court. And there are plenty of opportunities for the youngsters to let loose on the Wienerberg too – adventure awaits in the lovingly designed forest playground. Three drinking water fountains where outdoor fitness enthusiasts can stop and rehydrate provide unfiltered Viennese mountain spring water. These sources of water make the Wienerberg a true oasis in the middle of the concrete jungle – a leisure area that really lives up to the name.
