Live like a local – The guide for your arrival

January 21, 2020

Congratulations, you made it! Welcome to the most livable city in the world. You have just arrived here and are looking forward to your bright new future in Vienna. Maybe you don't know anybody here yet and don't really know how to explore your new (second) home? Don't worry, we at PhilsPlace are professional local hosts and love to share our knowledge about our city with you.

It's great to have you on board!

Constantly increasing mobility, a new job, a sudden change of lifestyle or the search for a new apartment – whatever reason led you to us, we are happy to make you feel at home here. To help you get started, we present a few tips and tricks for your temporary home.

Live like a local

The minute you enter your apartment, you probably do not feel at home straightaway. You put away your clothes, take a shower and take in the atmosphere of the room. You may feel that something is missing. At PhilsPlace, we know that individuality is what makes living comfortable. Why not pack your suitcase with personal items that are close to your heart: a photo of your loved ones, a couple of your books or your own pillow from back home will immediately make you feel at home. Of course, we also support you proactively with our free services. It is important to us that you find everything you need for your daily life in your apartment and that you can design your flat the way you like it. Whatever you need: Our team will be happy to help you!

Eat like a local

In addition to housing, food intake is of course another basic human need. You crave a small snack or want to inaugurate your kitchen right away? Directly in the building you will find the two supermarkets Hofer and BILLA PLUS, which leave nothing to be desired. Fill your fridge with all the ingredients for your favourite dishes or get inspired by recipes on our blog. Your apartment may soon smell of the seductive aromas of cinnamon and chai, if you choose the homemade granola to sweeten your morning and charge your energy for the day ahead. You don't feel like cooking yet? Vienna is a hotspot for culinary experiences, especially along tram line 1 there is a variety of restaurants for every taste. We have tested and summarized the best of them for you. Convenient: On your way through the 4th district to the restaurant of your choice you will also see quite a bit of the city.

Move like a local

Public transport is only one of many ways to get to your destination quickly in Vienna. Public transport is the most popular means of transport for the Viennese. On the “Wiener Linien” website you can easily select a ticket, the system will help you to make the right choice. For this we also recommend the WienMobil app, which will always get you to your destination quickly. Are you here by car? No problem, you will always have a space in our own parking garage. The city also has a very well developed network of cycle paths. On the website of “Fahrrad Wien” you can plan your route and explore the city in the most beautiful way. If you do not have your own bike with you, you can either borrow a "Grätzlrad" or use one of the city bikes, which are even free of charge for the first hour. The next station is at Vivenotgasse 65 - 67.

Relax like a local

Even though we like it cosy, we are far away from being couch potatoes. With the recreational area Wienerberg in our immediate vicinity, which you might be able to see from your apartment, you will always find enough space for a walk, a leisurely run or a fast sprint. Fancy a little challenge? Run along the PhilsPlace Brick Lane Round and beat the best times of our residents! You can read more about our challenge in our article "Keep fit on the Wienerberg". If you're more of a fan of indoor activities, we recommend our in-house McFit to really push yourself to the limit.

Explore like a local

Klimt, Schiele, Kokoschka – three Viennese artists whose influential works you can admire in the Leopold Museum alone. Vienna has a countless number of museums. Besides significant and world-famous collections, there are numerous small museums that stand out with original exhibits. Theatre, concert or opera? The choice can be a challenge. If you are uncertain, we will help you to decide. Simply ask us!

Become a local

We, the employees of PhilsPlace, are looking forward to showing you the hotspots and hidden sides of our city. "No matter what the concerns of our guests are, we will help them to become a Viennese Local themselves soon", says Guest Relations and Front Office Manager Lisa. She knows the preferences and special wishes of our guests by heart in every detail and will be happy to assist you with advice and support.

Our reception is manned every day from 07:00 to 23:00. We are available for you around the clock by telephone +43 1 361 62 00.
